True democracy implies equal participation of women and men in public life. Media can play an important role in promoting gender equality and contributing to the establishment of pluralistic society. On the other hand, media can also strengthen stereotypes existing in society and encourage exclusiveness rather than inclusiveness of society.
The issue of gender equality is directly related to harmonious development of society and the role of an individual in this process. It is a person who is a key driving force of progress and the aim of this drive too.
Guided by professional principles of media and open society values, the MDF aims to promote idea of equality and facilitate the professional and institutional development of media through supporting public debates and training about the role of society, raising awareness of citizens about fundamental rights, including gender equality, as well as conducting researches and media monitoring.
